Guardiola surprised by Silva’s success in Eng

first_imgSilva will leave City with an array of honours which already includes four league titles, four League Cups and two FA Cups. The Spaniard is guaranteed a permanent place in the club’s folklore, but Guardiola admitted he could not have foreseen such a career when Silva left Valencia for the Etihad in 2010 for what now seems a bargain £24 million ($29 million) move.“You can play a good season but he’s done it for 10 seasons, it is almost incredible. Big congratulations. For all the City fans – me included – it is a privilege,” said Guardiola.“Hopefully in his last season, he can be here and be who he is, play the way he wants to play and we will try to make him happy.”– ‘I was wrong’ –Guardiola was a big admirer of Silva during his time in Spain, but admitted that even he has been surprised by his success in England.“He’s one of the most intelligent players I’ve ever seen,” he said.“Moving in these small spaces he’s really good, one of the best.“But he’s tiny, a little player, not a box-to-box player and my image of England from the outside, I thought ‘maybe he’s going to suffer’. Happily, I was wrong.“That was my first impression. But obviously from the beginning, it is not just a fact that David played well this season or two seasons ago. He’s played well with all the managers, Roberto (Mancini), Manuel (Pellegrini) and with us.“He’s a huge competitor. How he reacts to the bad moments. His specific qualities help him survive in the Premier League. He should be so proud.”Silva was also selected to succeed Vincent Kompany as City’s club captain this season, a decision taken collectively by the first team squad. And while Guardiola acknowledged he is a very different personality to the more vocal, charismatic Kompany, the Catalan approved of the decision.“He’s a nice guy, a normal guy,” said Guardiola. “He has a lot of experience, knows exactly what the team needs, what he has to do.2Every captain is different, has a different personality. But I’m not going to say anything about it, he has to do what he believes. The players chose him, I’m not involved.”0Shares0000(Visited 12 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Silva surprise: Pep Guardiola praised David Silva’s ability to adapt to English football © AFP / Oli SCARFFMANCHESTER, United Kingdom, Aug 23 – David Silva is in line to make the 400th appearance of his extraordinary Manchester City career with manager Pep Guardiola admitting he never expected his star playmaker to survive in the English game. The 33-year-old will reach the landmark should he play in City’s visit to Bournemouth on Sunday at the start of what will be his last season in the Premier League.last_img read more

Establishing Yourself as a Trusted Advisor

first_imgTo be a trusted advisor, you need trust, and you need advice. What Is Not AdviceYour product is not advice. Nor is your service. Nor are the solutions that you happen to sell. The features, benefits, and advantages of what you sell are not advice either.Your management team isn’t advice, and as impressive as your board members may be, they aren’t advice. You know what else isn’t advice? All of your locations, and all of the logos of the big, recognizable, widely-admired companies you serve. As remarkable as your clients are, they are not advice.Your differentiation strategy isn’t advice either. The things that make you different and make a difference for your clients may help you distinguish yourself in a crowded market, but they are not advice. If you are spending the precious little time you have with your dream clients talking about you, your product, your company, your clients, and what makes you different, you are not “advising.”What Is AdviceWhat are all the forces weighing down on your dream client and causing them to produce results that are less than they should be? How should they be thinking about these forces, and what should they do about them? What are the risks of not responding to the systemic challenges that threaten your dream client’s business? What are their choices? What are the trade-offs? What are the risks of taking action now? What opportunities are available to your dream client now? Which provide them with the greatest advantages and which hAve the fastest return on invested time, money, and resources? How you engage with your dream client matters.Where you start the conversation is important because you are defining your relationship. If you begin the conversation with the things that you are comfortable talking about but that don’t create value, then you are not establishing that you have the potential to be their consigliere. If on the other hand, you start the conversation with strategically important issues, you demonstrate that you know something worth knowing, something that can benefit your dream client.Business acumen is the new sales acumen. s What is at risk by starting the conversation too low is nothing less than your relevance.last_img read more

I think it’s a natural tendency of a player to really get frustrated, especially when things are not going well for the team or for them as a player. But the whole game, I was playing honest defense. I was even talking to him during the game,” he said.READ: Brownlee waxes hot, pulls Ginebra to semis “He was saying that I kept on complaining. The whole time, I was relaxed and just doing my job on defense. I knew what I had to do. I wasn’t playing that well offensively, but I think defensively, I did my part on him and (Stanley) Pringle. I had no intention to hurt him, and if I did, it wasn’t intentional. I’m not a dirty player in the first place. I’m not gonna fight anyone. I have so much respect for him as a player and we’ve been teammates in the national team. But I think he didn’t have to do that if he was frustrated. That’s part of the game.”Tenorio understood where Romeo was coming from, admitting that if it were him on the former FEU guard’s shoes, he may have felt the same frustration. But knowing Romeo’s stature, the former Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference said that the flashy playmaker should have known better.“Bottomline is if were in his place, I think I would be frustrated also, but I’m not going to retaliate like that. I still have respect for him as a player. He’s a basketball idol. He’s a great player, a very talented player…that’s why I defend him like that,” he said. “A lot of kids, a lot of people are watching him. He’s one of the faces of the PBA, so he should be careful of those dirty plays because he’s not a dirty player. That’s what shocked us the most.”ADVERTISEMENT Don’t miss out on the latest news and information.
